Welcome everybody. This is video number two. For this lecture, you will need your How to Study the Bible manual. This whole lecture will be on several pages in that manual. I will highlight those pages. You will view those pages yourself and should skim them beforehand.
So, Father, we thank you for your Word. Thank you for the power of the gospel to save. We thank you for the power of the Word to create the universe and to hold the world together. We thank you for the power of the Word to change our hearts and to work in our lives. And so, Lord, as we approach this time together on this video, we ask that you would speak to us and give us clarity of revelation. We ask that the power of the Holy Spirit would hover over us and that your Spirit would ride on the words to bring us into life. We thank you in the strong name of Jesus. Amen.
It’s the heartbeat of the New Testament, and I’m entitling this lecture The Spirit and Power of God’s Word and Understanding Eastern Literature.
So we will cover the spiritual nature of the power of the Word, the role of revelation and inspiration, and how the Holy Spirit interacts with the Word. We’ll talk about our own heart conditions and the presuppositions God wants to deal with. And then we’ll spend a lot of time on Eastern culture and literature. That may be new for many of you, but it’s really crucial as we dive into the New Testament.
