These declarations were presented by Pastor Peter Young during his God of the Breakthrough message on August 7, 2022. Filling our mouths with the truth when we are contending for a breakthrough is our way of answering the question of Romans 8:31, “What shall we say to these things?
I believe in the God of the Breakthrough.
I proclaim that I am not alone, nor forsaken, and not abandoned by God.
I believe I am clothed with Divine protection.
I am expecting God in this moment to come through and lead me into the breakthrough that I need.
I will not give in to fear or defeat.
Supernatural solutions are rushing towards me from heaven right now.
I am accessing by faith the peace, presence, and power of God through Jesus.
And because of His victory in the cross and resurrection, I will see my enemy defeated, my inheritance claimed, my Kingdom destiny fulfilled in this hour.
I am a breakthrough person, and my breakthrough is arriving now.
Because I am walking, living, and believing in the God of the breakthrough.
All this talk about breakthrough seems contradictory as well as presumptuous. On the one hand this very declaration states:
” I am not alone, nor forsaken, and not abandoned by God.”
“I am clothed with Divine protection.”
“Because of His victory in the cross and resurrection, I will see my enemy defeated, my inheritance claimed, my Kingdom destiny fulfilled.”
All these things are proclaimed by God and promised every believer in scripture. All these things are attributes of God as our Father. So if we need a breakthrough, how in the world did God fail to live up to His own attributes, character and promises? How did we get into this situation that requires a breakthrough at all?
Perhaps the answer is found in these other sentences of this declaration:
“I believe in the God of the Breakthrough.”
“I will not give in to fear or defeat.”
“I am accessing by faith the peace, presence, and power of God through Jesus.”
Perhaps the need for breakthrough came from our OWN failure and inadequacies: WE didn’t believe in the promises of God, WE failed to appropriate our inheritance, WE failed to believe and have faith, WE gave in to fear, WE allowed ourselves to be defeated, WE gave the enemy access to defeat us, WE did not walk in the ways or presence of God.
If we need breakthrough, the fault is not with God, since He is perfect; therefore it is with US as imperfect sinful selfish beings.
Therefore the answer is not decreeing, declaring and proclaiming that something is done that is clearly not done. WE don’t decide what Heaven sends, God does. WE don’t decide when God blesses us, God does. And if you just have to confess you’re believing it’s here, then why do you even need a breakthrough in the first place??? Why isn’t it here???
This is Pentecostal style name it and claim it nonsense. This amounts to forging checks that God did not write and arrogantly demanding Him to cash them. It’s all about US: OUR blessing, OUR riches, OUR destiny, OUR inheritance. How well did that work for the prodigal son? Who by the way GOT ANSWERS TO ALL THOSE PRAYERS AND DEMANDS! Didn’t he??? There’s no provision for our own repentance and acknowledging where we went wrong. The prodigal finally did, but I don’t see it in this declaration.
I see no humility, no confession, no contriteness of heart, no submission to God’s holiness, timing and authority. I see a bunch of immature spoiled kids reaping the consequences of their childish arrogant behavior and expecting cookies for their own stubbornness and disrespect. That’s not breakthrough.
Read Isaiah chapter 58. THAT’s the formula for true breakthrough and how we even got to need one in the first place.
I wanted to perhaps clarify how I use declarations in sermons. We are not “legislating from heaven”, as much as we are agreeing with God’s revealed truth. So for example, in the declarations made recently where we declared, “I am not alone, God is for me,” etc.. This is simply agreeing with what God has already revealed. It is a way for believers to position our hearts by intentionally agreeing with what God has said. We are actually saying, God, I agree with this truth and I am positioning my spirit man and my soul to align with what God has said. This was the purpose of my recent declaration.
I understand what you are saying Peter and I don’t disagree with what you said. I did an extensive study on the concept of decreeing and declaring. What I have observed happening more frequently on stage during worship and prophetic words, people have stood on our stage in just the past year and decreed and declared this is a Covid-free zone, an end to Covid, this is a cancer-free zone, this is a sickness-free zone, this is a pain-free zone, and 2 consecutive weeks declared an end to depression and anxiety. Well, how did all these declarations and decrees work? Not at all. None of them has been conquered. This is what I responded to: the presumption and WE decide what WE want.
Some people need breakthrough because of no fault of their own, it’s just God’s process of training and maturing. For example Joseph sold into slavery then deported to a foreign land then in prison as a registered sex offender. Or Daniel in Babylon. Or Joshua and Caleb in the desert for 40 years. Or even Jesus in the wilderness. God’s purposes transcends need for personal breakthrough.
But on the other hand, many needed breakthroughs were only because of individual personal choices or outright sin, rebellion or disobedience. For example the other faithless Israelites in that same desert, the rebellious Israelites in that same nation of Babylon, or Jonah in the belly of the whale. They brought it on themselves, and decreeing and declaring or claiming promises would not remedy their situations. Only humility, confession, repentance, and acknowledging God’s holiness and sovereignty brings breakthrough.
I think of these verses:
Jer 12:8
My inheritance has become to me like a lion in the forest. She roars at me; therefore I hate her.
Mal 2:1-6
And now this admonition is for you, O priests. If you do not listen, and if you do not set your heart to honor my name, says the Lord Almighty, I will send a curse upon you, and I will curse your blessings. Yes, I have already cursed them, because you have not set your heart to honor me. Because of you I will rebuke your descendants; I will spread on your faces the dung from your festival sacrifices, and you will be carried off with it. (Wow think about that! Gross!). And you will know that I have sent you this admonition so that my covenant with Levi may continue,” says the Lord Almighty. My covenant was with him, a covenant of life and peace, and I gave them to him; this called for reverence and he revered me and stood in awe of my name. True instruction was in his mouth and nothing false was found on his lips. He walked with me in peace and uprightness, and turned many from sin.
My whole point is our attitude. I would have like to see the reverence instructed in these verses, not presumption or arrogance and demanding of God. As I said, the prodigal son demanded his RIGHTFUL rightful inheritance, and Israel demanded a king. Guess what, they BOTH got their declarations answered! And as Howard Hendricks says “and they’ve been trying to recover from that answer to prayer ever since.”
Hi Mike Glass,
That’s a very awesome name. 😎.
I don’t know you, but whenever I hear comments like yours. It always makes me wonder. How much experience does this person have in the lord.
We are not called to reduce our experience to the understanding of the scriptures.
And you probably won’t agree with this but most of the time in the kingdom our experience in the Holy Ghost elevates our understanding of scripture.
We can’t reduce god to our own understanding of scripture or our lack of experience.
You should be expecting to encounter god and have him answer your prayers.
And interestingly enough I found this scripture in Deuteronomy.
““For what great nation is there that has God so near to it, as the Lord our God is to us, for whatever reason we may call upon Him?”
Deuteronomy 4:7 NKJV
I believe the key here is the word “whatever”
God is near to us in a way that he is honored when his children talk to him, about whatever, whenever! 😂.
So my last statement is:
“Whatever man, God doesn’t care about what you talk to him about as long as your talking to him, that’s why he came near and chose us!”
I stand with Pastor Peter some 500 miles away from Denver, CONFIDENT that he has most assuredly been led of the Spirit in making declarations of breakthrough. I personally have been given such declarations the last 20-25 years FROM THE FATHER to make IN AGREEMENT with Him … TO BRING HEAVEN TO EARTH. As a seer I have seen the angels of the Lord unable to bring victory to individuals, cities and regions because the word of God and declarations of the Most High … were not loosed through the mouths of believers to exercise the authority we were given (to partner with heaven) – in this realm. Such declarations change us from the inside out, change the atmosphere, shake the gates of hell and break strongholds AS WE AGREE WITH WHAT GOD WANTS TO DO. Furthermore, such public declarations witness to the fact that the believer, in child-like faith, is utterly dependent on the Lord Jesus, Spirit and Father – to work in their behalf, helpless without divine assistance … even as it notifies HELL that we stand and wait in utter submission, humility and contriteness of heart – to God’s timing and authority. Preach on, Pastor Peter.
