A Life of Surrender
The Parking Spot Prayer
A man was running late for church and couldn’t find a parking spot. In desperation, he prayed, “Lord, if You give me a parking spot, I promise I’ll surrender my life to You and never miss church again!” Just as he finished praying, a spot opened up right in front of the church. He looked up and said, “Never mind, Lord, I found one!”
This humorous story reflects how we often hold onto control rather than truly surrender to God.
But Jesus calls us to something deeper:
“Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it.” – Mark 8:34-35
The Strength of Surrender
Surrender, in a worldly sense, is seen as a weakness. But in the Kingdom, surrender is strength.
- Surrender isn’t losing; it’s letting the One who never fails take over.
- Faith begins where control ends—your breakthrough is on the other side of surrender.
This year will be a year of building and restoration for those who live a surrendered life.
But what will they build?
The Surrendered Ones Will Be Builders
God is calling surrendered people to build:
- Their own lives (with Christ as the Center and love as the foundation)
- Altars (personal and family altars of worship)
- Homes (not just houses, but thriving God-centered homes)
- Families (building and nurturing strong, faith-filled families)
- Children (raising the next generation in faith)
- Bridges (acting as reconcilers in relationships and communities)
- Businesses (operating with Kingdom principles)
- Ministries (expanding God’s work)
- Communities (bringing transformation and revival)
There is a call to build! No one is here by accident; each person is chosen for a purpose. God is raising surrendered ones to be the builders of His kingdom—people who will step out in faith, not relying solely on their own strength, intellect, or hard work, but on the power of total surrender to the Lord.
While skills and efforts play a role, the foundation of true, lasting impact must begin with surrender. When individuals yield their plans, dreams, and abilities to Him, He takes what they have and multiplies it beyond what they could ever imagine. This is the difference between striving and thriving!
So, the challenge is to lean in, trust deeper, and let go of control. Surrender is not a weakness; it is the gateway to supernatural strength. It is not giving up; it is stepping up into something greater than oneself.
It is time for surrendered builders to arise! The time to build is now—not by might, not by power, but by His Spirit. Those who surrender and say, “Lord, here I am, use me,” will not only build—they will create something eternal.
self-centeredness is against surrender
We don’t surrender just to accomplish great things—we surrender because it aligns with our identity as God’s sons and daughters. Surrender is not about fulfilling personal ambitions but about coming into divine alignment.
- A self-centered life reflects me outside of Christ.
- A surrendered life reflects God’s image in me through Christ.
To truly surrender is to cease resisting and to joyfully align with God’s will, thoughts, and plans.
Surrendering directly aligns with a believer’s identity as a son or daughter of God. The goal of surrender is a deep, loving relationship with the Creator. The word *surrender* means to come to a place of ceasing to resist, but it does not stop there—it grows into a heart posture of delight in alignment with Him. It becomes a declaration: *”God, I love to and want to align with Your thoughts, Your will, Your Word, and Your plan.”* This requires self-denial.
A surrendered life aligns with the wisdom of God, while a self-centered life aligns with the wisdom that came from the tree Adam was forbidden to eat from.
This is both a call and a cry to live a life of surrender—a divine alignment with the heavenly Father.
The Characteristics of the Surrendered Ones
- They Offer Their Lives as Living Sacrifices (Romans 12:1-2)
- Sacrifice is an event, but surrender is a lifestyle.
- Surrender involves both heart (verse 1) and mind (verse 2).
- True surrender comes not just from learning more but from unlearning the ways of the world and yielding to God.
- They Know God Intimately (John 8:31-32)
- Knowing the truth isn’t just intellectual—it’s experiential.
- Divine revelation is not just an impartation of knowledge but an invitation to intimacy with God.
- They Long for a Clean Heart (Psalm 51:10)
- A clean heart isn’t self-generated—God creates it through surrender.
- David’s most significant failure came when he stopped surrendering; his greatest restoration came when he returned to surrender.
- They Wait on the Lord (Isaiah 40:31)
- Waiting on God isn’t passive—it’s active faith and positioning for His timing.
- Waiting is refining focus and preparing for a God-moment.
- They Live a Life of Patience (James 1:2-4)
- Biblical patience isn’t mere tolerance; it’s unyielding, defiant perseverance against the enemy’s plans.
- Patience produces courage and the ability to stand firm on God’s promises.
